Kristen Coyle
Host of Walking Dharma
About Kristen Coyle: I am a dedicated yoga practitioner and teacher. I have practiced yoga for nineteen years and have been teaching since 2008. Yoga has profoundly amplified my life and guided my path every step of the way. It has allowed me to lead an authentic, adventurous, and celebratory existence guided by intuition and a longing for spiritual connection. I find deep joy in cultivating community and connection through the universal teachings of yoga and have had the pleasure of leading classes, workshops, trainings and retreats at various (mostly tropical) locales around the world. I took up a consistent practice at an early age and ongoingly dedicate time to study, do my personal practice, and refine my teaching skills/offerings so that what I’m offering others is rooted in experiential knowledge and yogic tradition. As an instructor, I invite practitioners to explore the infinite potential within their yoga practice through an empowering, undiluted and loving approach. I also love to travel, dance and cook amazing food and have spent many years of my life immersed in Caribbean and Hawaiian cultures. These experiences have opened my heart and inform my yoga teaching just as much as my formal training as a teacher.
I have been blessed to study with Yogi Sri Dharma Mittra (Dharma Yoga), Nicole Garr (Ashtanga Yoga), and many other incredible wisdom keepers from the Vinyasa and Astanga traditions. I specialize in leading alignment-based Vinyasa yoga classes that are infused with anatomically informed peak pose sequencing, breath based movement, spinal waves and strength drills. I am inherently creative and am continually evolving my sequences so they have elements of both repetition and creative movement patterns. In addition, I love to teach Restorative/Yin yoga practices that invoke deep relaxation by helping unwind bound up fascia, release trigger points and balance the nervous system. Breathing exercises, chanting and yogic philosophy are also integral aspects of my offerings.
In 2014, I founded Walking Dharma YTT school (RYS 200 and RYS 300) and have fully embraced the path of helping teachers find their voice, and perhaps more importantly to assist them in uncovering their inherent ‘why,’ The 'WHY’ which compels them to take the seat of a teacher. My teacher trainings are in depth journeys into the realms of how to be an inspired and informed teacher of asana, pranayama, mantra, bandha, physical and energetic anatomy, yogic philosophy and understanding emotional metaphors and how they relate to the body/mind.
Most recently, I have begun mentoring yoga teachers on their path to awakening and defining their niche as a yoga educator. I assist teachers in furthering their scope of knowledge of traditional yogic practices in conjunction with modern vinyasa principles of sequencing, holding space and curating powerful classes.
